This book is the first in a series of publications on vehicle-related pollution and control measures prepared by the World Bank in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme to underpin the Bank's overall objective of promoting transport that is environmentally sustainable and least damaging to human health and welfare/5(3).

The National Emissions Standards Act, officially known as the Motor Vehicle Air Pollution Control Act (Pub.L. 89–), is a amendment to the U.S.

Clean Air Act of The amendment set the first federal vehicle emissions standards, beginning with the models. These standards were reductions from the emissions: 72% reduction for hydrocarbons, 56% reduction for carbon monoxide.

Vehicle pollution (also transport pollution, motor pollution) is the introduction of harmful material into the environment by motor vehicles.

These materials, known as pollutants, have several bad effects on human health and the ecosystem. Examples of such pollutants include Carbon monoxide, Hydrogen, Nitrogen Oxide, particulate matter, Ammonia. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency works with the Environmental Protection Agency to enforce air quality standards, and reduce motor vehicle pollution.

The MPCA promotes technologies, fuels and driving habits that reduce emissions and fuel consumption for consumers and fleet operators. It has been possible to reduce % pollution loads generated by vehicles through proper periodical inspection and maintenance of vehicles.

Such inspection and maintenance of vehicles is being carried on by State Pollution Control Boards, Pollution Control Committees and Transport Directorates in different parts of the country. Exhaust gas or flue gas is emitted as a result of the combustion of fuels such as natural gas, gasoline, petrol, biodiesel blends, diesel fuel, fuel oil, or ing to the type of engine, it is discharged into the atmosphere through an exhaust pipe, flue gas stack, or propelling often disperses downwind in a pattern called an exhaust plume.

It is one in a series of publications on vehicle-related pollution and control measures prepared by the World Bank in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme to underpin the Bank ' s overall objective of promoting transport development that is environmentally sustainable and least damaging to human health and welfare.

The United States Air Pollution Control Act of 4 marked the first direct national commitment to air quality issues. It charged the Public Health Service within the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (DHEW) with coordinating information gathering and scientific findings relating to the causes and effects of air pollution.

5 The law also provided support for state and local. Automobile emissions control covers all the technologies that are employed to reduce the air pollution-causing emissions produced by automobiles. Vehicle emissions control is the study of reducing.
